1 About these terms

These terms govern your use of the Pi Media Group website and the Pi News website, including the articles, photographs, video, listings, directories, downloads and other material made available through them. By using either website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the websites.

These are website-use terms. Separate terms may apply if you buy advertising, printing, event tickets, sponsorship, subscriptions, products or other paid services from us, or if you enter a competition or promotion. If separate terms conflict with these terms in relation to that service, the separate terms will take priority.

You should also read our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, which explain how we use personal information and cookies.

3 Changes to these terms and the websites

We may update these terms when our websites, services or legal obligations change. The latest version will be published on the websites with the date shown above. Changes will apply from publication and will not retrospectively alter a separate paid contract already agreed with you unless that contract permits the change or the law requires it.

We may update, suspend, withdraw or restrict any part of a website for editorial, operational, security, legal or business reasons. Where reasonably possible, we will give appropriate notice of significant changes affecting a paid service.

4 Access to the websites

The websites are made available primarily for people in the United Kingdom. We do not promise that their content is appropriate or available in every country. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply where you access them.

We aim to keep the websites available and secure, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. We may carry out maintenance, correct faults, limit traffic or block access where reasonably necessary.

You are responsible for the device, software, internet connection and any charges required to access the websites. If you allow another person to use your device or account, you are responsible for ensuring they know about these terms.

5 Permitted use

You may view, print or download reasonable extracts from the websites for your own personal, non-commercial use. You must keep any copyright, trade mark and attribution notices with the material.

You must not, without our prior written permission:

  • copy, republish, reproduce, distribute, sell, license, broadcast or commercially exploit a substantial part of either website or its content;
  • systematically scrape, crawl, harvest, index, extract or collect content or data, whether manually or through automated tools, except where permitted by law or expressly allowed by our robots.txt or written licence;
  • use website content to train, develop, test or improve an artificial-intelligence or machine-learning system, or to create a competing news, media, data or content service;
  • remove or alter credits, rights information, watermarks or technical protections;
  • frame, mirror or reproduce the appearance of either website in a way that suggests an association with us; or
  • use our content or branding in advertising, endorsements or promotions without permission.

Nothing in these terms restricts lawful quotation, criticism, review, reporting, linking or another use permitted by copyright law.

6 Prohibited conduct

You must not use either website:

  • for any unlawful, fraudulent, defamatory, threatening, abusive, hateful, discriminatory, obscene or harassing purpose;
  • to infringe another person’s privacy, confidentiality, copyright, trade mark or other rights;
  • to upload malware, interfere with security, probe vulnerabilities, overload systems or disrupt another user;
  • to impersonate another person, misrepresent your identity or falsely suggest an association with us;
  • to collect personal information about other users without a lawful basis;
  • to send spam, unauthorised advertising or repetitive communications; or
  • to encourage, assist or attempt any prohibited activity.

We may investigate suspected misuse and take reasonable action, including restricting access, removing material, preserving evidence and reporting conduct to relevant authorities. We will act proportionately and in accordance with applicable law.

7 Our content and intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, the websites and their content are owned by or licensed to us. This includes articles, headlines, text, photographs, graphics, video, audio, page designs, databases, logos, trade marks and software. Those rights are protected by copyright, trade mark and other laws.

Pi Media Group, Pi News, Pi Print, Pi Trade, CWF Events and associated names, logos and branding may be trade marks or trading names belonging to us or our licensors. No right to use them is granted except as expressly stated in these terms.

If you wish to reproduce, syndicate, licence or commercially use our content, contact us at:

Info@pinewsuk.com

8 Editorial content

Our websites provide news, features, opinion, community information, sports coverage, events, lifestyle material and other editorial content. Content is provided for general information and is not legal, financial, medical or other professional advice. You should obtain appropriate professional advice before acting on information where the decision could have significant consequences.

News develops and circumstances change. Although we take reasonable care, content may become incomplete, outdated or contain errors. Publication dates and updates should be considered when relying on an article. Views expressed by named contributors, interviewees or commentators are their own and do not necessarily represent our views.

We distinguish editorial content from paid advertising or sponsored material where required. Advertisers are responsible for the accuracy and legality of their claims, but this does not remove any responsibility that the law places on us.

9 Corrections and complaints about content

If you believe that content is inaccurate, unlawful, infringes your rights or should be corrected, please contact our editorial team and identify the relevant page, the issue and the outcome you are requesting. We will consider the matter under our editorial and legal processes. Contacting us does not guarantee removal or amendment, but we will review genuine concerns fairly.

Nothing in these terms prevents you from exercising a legal right or contacting an appropriate regulator, court or other authority.

10 Material you submit

This section applies if you send us a letter, comment, story tip, article, photograph, video, audio, listing, review, competition entry or other material for possible use or publication.

You retain ownership of any rights you hold in your material. By submitting it, you confirm that:

  • the material is your own or you have all permissions needed to submit it and allow the uses described below;
  • the material is accurate to the best of your knowledge and is not deliberately misleading;
  • its use will not infringe another person’s copyright, privacy, confidentiality or other rights, breach a court order, or be defamatory or unlawful; and
  • you have obtained appropriate permission from identifiable people shown or heard in the material, including a parent or guardian where required for a child.

You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to review, edit, reproduce, publish, distribute, communicate, archive and promote the submitted material in connection with our editorial, print, digital, social-media and promotional activities. This licence allows us to resize, crop, subtitle, translate or otherwise adapt the material for format, clarity and house style, while taking reasonable care not to misrepresent it. You may continue to use and license your material elsewhere.

We are not obliged to publish submitted material and may decide when, where and whether to use it. If you need anonymity, confidentiality, payment, approval of edits or limited usage, this must be expressly agreed with us in writing before submission or publication. Do not send confidential material through a general contact form if disclosure could place anyone at risk; contact the editorial team first to discuss a suitable channel.

If you submit material in a professional capacity under a separate contributor agreement, that agreement will take priority where it conflicts with this section.

11 Comments and community features

If comments, reviews or other public-posting features are enabled, you remain responsible for what you post. Contributions must be relevant, civil, lawful and consistent with section 6. Do not publish private contact details, sensitive personal information or allegations you cannot properly support.

We may moderate, refuse, edit, move or remove contributions where reasonably necessary to enforce these terms, protect users, comply with law or maintain the quality of the service. We are not required to monitor every contribution before it appears.

12 Competitions promotions and events

Competitions, prize draws, promotions and events may have separate rules covering eligibility, deadlines, judging, prizes, cancellations and use of entries. Those rules will be presented with the relevant promotion and will take priority if they conflict with these website terms.

Unless a promotion states otherwise, no purchase is necessary to enter a free prize draw, and entries must be submitted through the stated method by the deadline. We may reject entries that are late, incomplete, automated, fraudulent or do not meet the published rules. We will administer promotions fairly and will not remove rights that entrants have under law.

13 Advertising and commercial enquiries

Advertising availability, prices, specifications, deadlines, cancellation rights, payment terms and approval requirements are governed by the quotation, order form, insertion order or other terms agreed for that booking. Sending an enquiry does not create a booking or guarantee publication.

We may reasonably refuse or request changes to advertising that is unlawful, misleading, technically unsuitable, inconsistent with our published standards or likely to harm readers or our reputation. Any cancellation fees or changes to an agreed consumer contract must be fair, transparent and consistent with applicable law.

14 Links to and from other websites

Our websites may link to third-party websites, social platforms, advertisers, ticketing services or embedded content. Links are provided for convenience or context and do not necessarily mean we endorse or control the third party. Their terms, privacy practices, availability and content are their responsibility.

You may link to a public page on our websites in a fair and lawful way that does not damage our reputation or suggest endorsement where none exists. You must not link from an unlawful site, frame our pages or obscure the source of our content. We may ask you to remove a link where there is a legitimate legal, security or reputational reason.

15 Viruses security and availability

We take reasonable steps to operate secure websites, but we cannot promise that they will always be free from bugs, viruses or harmful code. You should use appropriate security software and backups. You must not introduce malicious code, attack the websites or attempt unauthorised access to our systems or data.

If you discover a security issue, please report it privately to:

Editor@pinewsuk.com

16 Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits responsibility where it would be unlawful to do so, including responsibility for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any rights and remedies that cannot legally be excluded.

If you are a consumer, we are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, was not caused by our breach, or results from your misuse of the websites. These terms do not affect your statutory rights.

If you use the websites for business purposes, we will not be responsible for loss of profits, sales, business, revenue, anticipated savings, data, goodwill or business opportunity, or for indirect or consequential loss, except where the law does not allow that responsibility to be excluded. Any separate paid contract may contain its own liability terms.

We are not responsible for a delay or failure caused by circumstances genuinely outside our reasonable control, but this does not remove any right or remedy the law gives you.

17 Privacy and cookies

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal information. Our Cookie Policy or cookie-preference centre explains the cookies and similar technologies used on each website and how to change your choices. These documents form part of the information governing your use of the websites but do not reduce your rights under data-protection law.

18 Ending or restricting access

You may stop using the websites at any time. We may restrict or end access where reasonably necessary because of a serious or repeated breach of these terms, security risk, legal requirement, discontinuation of a service or protection of other users. Where appropriate and lawful, we will explain the reason and give a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue.

Sections intended to continue after access ends, including intellectual-property provisions, licences already granted, responsibility and governing law, will continue to apply.

19 Governing law and courts

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also benefit from mandatory protections of your home jurisdiction and may bring proceedings in the courts available to you under applicable law. Business users agree that the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction, unless a separate written agreement says otherwise.

20 General provisions

If a court finds part of these terms invalid or unenforceable, the remaining parts will continue to apply. A delay in enforcing a right does not waive it. These terms do not give rights to anyone other than you and us, except where the law provides otherwise. Nothing in these terms creates a partnership, agency, employment or joint venture between you and us.
