Innovative new game app features exclusive soundtrack recorded with London Symphony Orchestra
Recently released Gift Panic, from Frogsy Gaming Studios, has become the third app to feature a soundtrack recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra.
The soundtrack was composed by George Eracleous, 27, Head of Sound & Music at Frogsy Gaming Studios, from Nicosia Cyprus (the company is based in Limassol). It’s the first major scoring project for the self-taught musician and composer who has been based at the company for 18 months.
Working initially from draft sketches and basic concept art, George began experimenting, writing the main theme song first before creating unique themes for each of the game’s separate worlds.
“I wanted the music to add a vibe to the game that stands out and escape from the conventional genres that are usually used for games of this category. My aim was to make it exciting and multidimensional. In Gift Panic you will hear a little bit of classical, ethnic, rock and even a little electro.”
A few months before the launch of the app, George contacted the London Symphony Orchestra to suggest recording the soundtrack with the world class musicians and – to his surprise – they were just as eager to work together on the project. Within a few weeks, George had to provide all the music in scores to the LSO.
“I’ve avoided music theory all my life and yet all of a sudden I’d been asked to write a large amount of score for 30 individual orchestral instruments,” says George. “I worked long hours and did lots of research in order to prepare the music in time with the help of my band mate Stefanos Yiassemides.”
A few months later, in January 2015, George headed to London with Frogsy CEO, Johan Boger, to oversee the recording. The team were paired for the session with top recording engineer, Grammy award-winner, Steve Price and finally George heard his compositions performed live by members of the LSO.
“The day was overwhelming,” says George, “I’ll always remember it as one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Working with the London Symphony Orchestra, one of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, and legendary engineer, Steve Price, was beyond my wildest dreams. It was such an honour.”
Although George has been passionate about music since the age of 12, he has never formerly studied it. Instead, he earned his bachelor’s degree on Film Studies & Media Studies.
Outside Frogsy, George composes, performs and produces music for two bands – Oneirism, an experimental rock band and Martial Sounds, a one man electronic project band.
