Technical problems with the radar system at Athens international airport resulted in massive disruption of flights in and out of the Greek capital. The problem occurred shortly before 1pm today which resulted in delays as long as four hours for some as the disruption quickly had a knock on effect on flights at Larnaca and Paphos airports in Cyprus.
Flight CY1352 from Larnaca to Zurich which departed at 12:45pm, was forced to return to Larnaca and was rescheduled to depart later in the day. Flight CY317 from Rome to Larnaca was also delayed for several hours in the Italian capital.
Other flights that were affected were the CY347 London to Larnaca and CY426 Larnaca to Sofia.
Airport spokesman Adamos Aspris warned that all flights passing through Greek airspace would be affected and that the disruption was likely to have a knock on affect on Sunday’s flight schedule.
