A number of projects the approximate value of which reaches one billion euro are underway, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Neoklis Sylikiotis has said.
In statements he made to the press after a meeting of a ministerial committee with the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA) Sylikiotis said that during the meeting they examined a list of projects to see what can be done to help things speed up.
The government had announced previously the creation of a Fast Track Mechanism for projects worth over 50 million euro, Research and Innovation projects as well as projects which will create many jobs.
“Quite a few projects, of a total value of hundreds of millions of euro, possibly close to one billion, are underway”, Sylikiotis noted.
He further explained that some projects have already received the necessary permits, such as golf courses and marinas and are now in the process of finding financing.
Others, he said, are in the process of obtaining the necessary permits, whilst some projects are still in the initial stages of conception.
In the future, Sylikiotis added, the committee will look into what the government can do in order to push things forward for projects which are still not underway.
Replying to a question as to how many projects the list contains, Sylikiotis said that it contains about 40 projects, each of an estimated value of over 50 million euro.
