An evening full of goals for Greek teams in Europe saw AEK thrash Aberdeen, PAOK hang on to a dramatic victory at Lille, and Panathinaikos waste its early advantage to lose at Feyenoord.
For the Conference League, AEK dismantled hapless Aberdeen 6-0 in Athens to get to three points from two games.
The Yellows scored three quick goals, twice with Aboubakary Koita and once with Niclas Eliasson. That was followed in the second half by three more goals, by Razvan Marin, Luka Jovic and Dereck Kutesa, for one of the best European nights in AEK’s history.
In the Europa League, PAOK scored four goals and had a penalty saved in France, but had its goalkeeper Antonis Tsiftsis to thank above all for its 4-3 win at Lille.
Soualiho Meite, Andrija Zivkovic and Giannis Konstantelias gave PAOK a 3-0 lead by half-time, but the game had plenty more drama after the interval. Lille made it 3-2 with Benjamin Andre and Hamza Igamane, before Zivkovic missed a penalty and then redeemed himself four minutes on to score PAOK’s fourth.
Igamane made it 4-3 12 minutes from the end but PAOK survived the pressure and won in the end, as a Lille goal seven minutes into time added-on was ruled offside. PAOK now has four points from three games.
Panathinaikos, on the other hand, was unable to retain its lead and lost 3-1 in Rotterdam to a superior Feyenoord.
Karol Swiderski put the Greens in front on the 18th, but Givairo Read equalized for the Dutch in first-half injury time, and the second half was all Feyenoord: Anis Hadj Moussa and Cyle Larin deservedly gave the hosts all three points with their goals.
Panathinaikos still has three points from as many games in the Europa League.
