Make it up

With the clocks going back last weekend and the dark nights setting in early, it may be easy to just curl up indoors and settle by the TV. But is that what we really want to do? – waste our life stuck by a television set? Don’t get me wrong, I also love tucking into a good movie or box set, but not all day, every day. It may be nice as an unwind in the evening, or a treat to have a movie watch evening, like at the cinema, but don’t let the winter tempt you to do nothing else but that, all day and night. We are of course limited to real time out in the evenings dur to the restrictions, but it is important for self-esteem and self-worth to get yourself together and get out and meet people, be in the surroundings you love, with people you can just be around safely. Even if you cannot be right next to the ones you fully want to be around; whether it is a walking stroll in the day or evening, or just listening to some music at a venue whilst you have a meal, sharing the experience of just being there and being where other people actually are is important, especially when you are on your own. It is essential for one’s well-being to keep a little normality for some sanity.
So let’s start by mentally preparing ourselves with the reminder of the importance of taking care of ourselves – looking great and feeling great. Knowing that if we look good, we feel good and if we feel good, we look good. It is like a little cycle as one in turn reflects the other. When we are happy, it oozes the radiance in and on our actions. If we look good, it reflects with confidence as we radiate magnetic joy to others.
Be adventurous in the way you dress for any occasion, be it a walk or out time. Make it count with a little character reflection of your mood. Make it up as you go along, mix things up with what you already have. Okay so jeans are worn as jeans, but the belt and top that you wear with it can transform the look. A scarf can make a good hipster belt or even a hair band. Often luxurious nightwear can be worn as a nice top, who will know and who cares, at least it is less likely that others will be wearing the same. Think out of the box and be wild and imaginative. Wear your sportswear leggings with a loose top as pyjamas. Make it up and mix it up a little.
Don’t forget the importance of hair and make up for your feel good factor. Wear your hair differently whether it is long or short, style it out in different ways to suit your mood. Curly, straight, high, swept, tousled, up, down, plaited with some ribbon. Change your look, to reflect how you are feeling. Keep it in tip top condition as you do so with colour sprays or brush in temporary colour or even an add-in colour hair extension clip that can be easily removed without any harsh chemicals touching your hair.
Make up adds a healthy glow and some colour. With less rays of sunshine in the winter months, a little moisturiser with a hint of colour can make all the difference. Whether it is a temporary day tint or a build of colour self-tanning tint, is up to you, but for those who don’t like wearing foundation, it is ideal. Adding a little concealer to any blemished, uneven tone skin areas, can work wonders.
Keeping it all simple with some eyeliner around the eyes and a little lip liner with a light plum lip colour, is great for a natural day make up. Use a lighter plum colour for fair skin and darker plum shades for darker skin tones and you are done in no time.
Want to glam it up, add some mineral foundation glow powder on top of the basic tinted moisturiser. Add a little drama with a smokey eye shadow in the corner of the eyelids and a little highlighter at the centre lid and corner brow area. Layer with false lash, illusion mascara. Pop on a luscious red lip colour for some va-va-voom and you are set! Make sure you choose a red that compliments your own skin tone. As a rough guide, for fair skin tone – raspberry, bright red; medium skin tone – orange, apricot, cool red; olive skin – berry, cherry red; and dark skin – deep raisin, blackberry red.
So no winter couch potatoes here. Get out and be seen to be seen for you!
