Officers attended an address in Waltham Cross on Friday 16 January, as part of an investigation into counterfeit bank notes being circulated in the county. Two people were arrested and several fake bank notes and materials to make more were seized.
A 37-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, both from Waltham Cross, were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981. Both have been released on bail whilst the investigation continues.
Detective Alex Fairley, from the Cheshunt Crime Investigation Department, said: “There have been reports of people using fake bank notes in the county in recent months, so be vigilant when accepting cash and make sure to examine the notes carefully. You can find out how to spot fake bank notes by visiting the Bank of England site.
“In the event that you identify any notes as counterfeit, do not dispose of them or pass them to a bank. Please contact Hertfordshire Police by calling 101 and an officer will arrange collection for examination.”
