32nd Congress of the International Coordinating Committee`s “Justice for Cyprus concludes in Washington

The 32nd Congress of the International Coordinating Committee`s “Justice for Cyprus”, also known as PSEKA concludes its work on Thursday with a briefing by US Vice President`s National Security Advisor Colin Kahl and a presentation of the positions of the two presidential candidates on matters of Greek and Cypriot interest.

In the afternoon, a delegation comprising leading figures from Greeks and Cypriots living in the US will be received by Vice President Joe Biden at the White House.

The Congress work on Wednesday took place in the Congress where delegates were able to exchange points of view with many members of the US Parliament and Senate over developments in the Cyprus reunification process. They asked the American Congressmen to use their influence so that the US government will in turn press Turkey to take concrete steps in the right direction.

During the Congress dinner the President of the House of Representatives Committee of Foreign Affairs Ed Royce, MP Steve Israel and Greek American businesswoman Kelly Vlachakis were honoured. Her father Van Vlachakis, who has passed away, was also honoured.

The event was addressed by PSEKA President Philip Christopher, Washington lobbying coordinator Andy Manatos and Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides.

Receiving his award Royce condemned the Turkish occupation of Cyprus, which has resulted in the destruction of cultural and religious monuments. Even Turkish Cypriots have told me during a visit that the culture of Cyprus has been destroyed, he said.

He further reiterated US Vice President Joe Biden`s reference that the reunification of Cyprus is of vital importance for the US.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN led talks have been underway since May 2015 aiming to reunite the island under a federal roof.
