Weekly Round-Up: Strong Starts to the Season (20/09)
The season has got off to a strong start, with teams across the club putting in some impressive performances. From hard-fought battles to convincing wins, there have already been plenty of exciting moments to look back on.

U11 Green Girls- Taking the Lead

From the first whistle, the girls showed tremendous effort, determination and a fantastic attitude. Facing a strong opponent, the team were tested early and had to deal with a few setbacks but showed real character and continued to work hard for each other. As the game progressed, the team grew in confidence and started to find their rhythm, producing some excellent moments of football, plenty of hard work off the ball and, most importantly, a brilliant team spirit.
The response to the early challenges was what stood out most. The girls kept encouraging one another, battled for every ball and never stopped believing. They finished the match on a real high, with smiles all round and plenty to be proud of. A huge display from the whole squad and a fantastic effort from start to finish. There is plenty to build on, but if the spirit and togetherness shown today is anything to go by, it’s going to be a very exciting season for Omonia Girls Green U11s. Well done, girls – what a way to start the season!
U10 White– Game On
Coaches: Chris C, Zac & Chris J
An amazing performance from the whole team today, with great energy, skill and communication from the very start. Great goals from Bazil & Robert and fantastic performances from both goalkeepers helped drive a very positive scoreline. It was, however, a whole team performance with everyone playing their part and everyone giving it their all.
After a difficult game last week, the boys were excellent in defence, tracking the opposition brilliantly, and while fatigue set in towards the end, they never let up and stayed with it to the final whistle!
U14 Green- Back at it and Pushing Forward
Win: 5-3 | PoTM: Franek & Aliihsan | Coaches: Sadat & Paul
The boys made a tentative start, however, despite the setback, the team quickly settled and showed determination to respond. Adam pulled one back with a long-range strike after Chris laid it off, but they then conceded a penalty, and Finchley put it away to make it 1-3. From there they took hold of the game, driven by Sulaiman’s clever passing and Aliihsan’s bold running. Sulaiman teed up Aliihsan for 2-3, then Aymen found Sulaiman to level it at the break.
Adam played in Aliihsan for 4-3, and with five minutes left Yiannis and Idris combined for the fifth. A second win on the bounce! Special mention to Adam, outstanding in midfield. POTM to Franek, tireless down the right, and Aliihsan for two goals and relentless running.
U12 Silver– The Action Continues
Win: 6-2 | PoTM: Mario | Coaches: Pete & Angelo
This was a game of 2 halves that found both teams battling it out end-to-end. The first half started at a fast pace with Omonia opening the score, within 5 minutes, Limassol had equalised. The game continued with hard pressing from both sides, but Omonia scored another just before half-time.
The second half started the same, but Omonia stepped it up showing stamina and resilience. Before long Omonia scored again, opposition heads seemed to drop, and the Omonia train wasn’t showing signs of slowing down. Game continued with exhibition football on display, with Omonia scoring a fourth, fifth and sixth goal!

U10 Green– Making every moment count
PoTM: Greg | Coaches: Andy, Paul & Chris
Omonia produced a very encouraging performance, combining a strong work rate with plenty of attacking creativity in an entertaining match full of chances. The boys were generally in control and created some excellent opportunities throughout. In the first half, their attacking play was particularly positive.
As the match progressed, the boys raised their intensity and showed greater physicality to close down danger quickly. Chris was particularly composed in defence, while Michael repeatedly got the better of his opponent on the wing. Greg was outstanding in midfield, linking play intelligently, getting his head up to find the right pass and taking his own opportunities when they arose. His energy across the pitch earned him PoTM in a strong team performance.
U9 & 10 Green Girls– Bringing the Energy

Today marked the girls’ first-ever league game, and despite having just five players, they gave absolutely everything from start to finish. The girls never stopped working, never stopped communicating and showed so much courage on the pitch. Most importantly, they had the right mentality- they went out there, enjoyed themselves, supported one another and played with big smiles on their faces.
Seeing them give their best, encourage each other and simply enjoy football made me incredibly proud to be their coach. These girls have the right spirit for football!
U16 White– Going for the Win

Omonia U16 White faced a tough Challenge Cup tie against a Division One side two leagues higher – the same team that knocked them out last season. With six players leaving over the summer and no substitutes available, Alex P stepped in as goalkeeper. After conceding early, the boys responded brilliantly, passing the ball well, using the wings and battling for every ball. Their confidence grew- Adam outran the defender and his lofted shot came off the post. An opportunity opened with a half volley from Alex X, who was the maestro in midfield. Before half-time, a lifted ball from Chris on the left lobbed the keeper.
In the second half, Yahya managed to dazzle the crowd with a ferocious run down the left and slide the ball in. The team defended several other free kicks and continued to nullify multiple attacks. Edmund and new signing Davit were immense. On reflection, both Mark, the parents and I were so proud with what we witnessed today. There is a chemistry about the team and today also proved they have the character battle against the odds. The season is off to flying start!
U11 Silver– Taking on the Challenge

There was a different feeling around the team before the game even started this week. The attitude was positive; the boys looked ready to play and, most importantly, the team spirit was 100% there. With a full squad available, the Silvers came out flying and dominated from the start. The boys played some excellent football in the first half, keeping things simple, moving the ball well and not overcomplicating things. Their hard work was rewarded with a commanding lead going into half-time.
The second half was a different test, with We Make Footballers U11 creating plenty of chances and putting us under much more pressure. Despite that, the boys maintained their composure, while our goalkeeper, George, made some excellent saves to help us stay in the lead. The hard work is paying off, and we look forward to the rest of the season. A really positive performance from the team. Well done, Omonia U11 Silver!
U10 Silver– A Game to Remember

Omonia U10 Silver played their second-ever game today against HGS Pumas. They showed great discipline in the first half and defended tenaciously while creating chances hitting HGS on the break. The U10 Silvers didn’t let their heads drop and were rewarded by a 20-yard screamer from Kian as half-time approached. The second half was a tight affair, but they stuck to their task and didn’t let an experienced HSG side settle. Carlos, Theo and Themis defended brilliantly; Kimon and Dillon pulled off good saves in goal, Kian and George worked tirelessly in midfield while Oliver, Daniel and Marco did great work in attack.
U10 Silver worked hard to get back into the game, coming close when Theo broke out of defence to force a one-on-one with the keeper, who saved excellently. For only their second game, U10 Silver made us all proud with their hard work, skill and discipline. There were big improvements on last week and the boys show great promise for what’s to come.
Thanks again to Sophia for her help on match days. She’s been invaluable for the boys and is just brilliant to have around.
U8 Silver– Ready for the Challenge

Second game of the season and our first goals on the board – what a moment for the boys! The result didn’t go our way against LivelyKicks, but anyone who was there last week could see the progress. Week on week, this team is getting better. A massive well done to Olise, our player of the match with two goals! The second one was something special, a long-range strike hit with power that flew into the bottom corner. Brilliant finish! Credit to every one of the boys today. They kept going, kept working for each other, and kept believing right to the final whistle.
Thank you as always to the parents for the support from the sidelines – the encouragement makes a real difference to the boys. Great progress, U8 Silvers. Onwards to next week!
U13 White– Chasing Another Win
Win: 4-1 | PoTM: Brodie | Coach: Chris
The boys first game of the season today meant the kids were chomping at the bit to get started against the big rivals Hinton, having had no game last weekend. They began brightly and dominated the game with lots of possession. Even though the other team managed to score, the boys persevered with some brilliant football and got their reward with 3 goals before half time.
The second half, with Hinton chasing the game, became a bit more of a battle and a test of their mental strength as they found themselves under lots of pressure. They resisted, they fought, they defended multiple corners and long balls and managed to put the icing on the cake with their 4th goal to completely finish the game. Overall, given the circumstances, I couldn’t have asked any more of the kids. A great result to begin the season and they will march on to next weekend.
U9 Silver– Ready For More

A really positive performance from the newly formed team made up of existing, new to football and a couple new to the team players against Enfield Rangers Yellow. In their second match of the season, it was so pleasing to see all the stuff they have been working on at Snakes Lane coming into the boys’ passages of play.
One of the small wins for me is seeing the boys celebrating their goals as a team (of which we scored 5 this week) and being genuinely happy about my weekly choice of captain and player of the match! A joy to coach such a great bunch of boys
U12 Girls- The Action Continues
PoTM: Megan | Coach: Theo & Katie
The nerves before kick-off were real, but once the whistle blew, the girls turned that energy into brilliant football. Captain Fantastic Leah led from the front with four incredible goals today, a true captain’s performance that will be remembered for a long time. Super Senabel also scored to complete a wonderful team display. 5 goals in their first ever league game. What a way to announce themselves!
The goals may grab the headlines, but the victory was built on a fantastic defensive display. Every tackle, block and recovery was full of courage and resilience, with the defenders and goalkeeper standing strong together. Megan deserves a special mention for her endless energy and determination throughout the game, never stopping and always doing it with a smile. A true Omonia performance! Most importantly, the girls played for each other from start to finish. The teamwork, encouragement and camaraderie were brilliant to see, and the hard work from pre-season is already paying off.
A huge thank you to our parents for the amazing support from the touchline. One game, one win, five goals — and the season has only just begun! Well done girls, we are so proud of you!
