A woman has been jailed after she bit off part of her victim’s ear before spitting it on the floor

A woman has been sentenced after she bit off part of her victim’s ear.

Chloe Hammond, 27 (07.08.90) of Denham Vale, Rayleigh, Essex, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, 18 December to five years in prison.

She was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a trial at the same court in October.

The court heard how on the afternoon of Sunday, 19 March, the victim – a woman in her mid-50s – was with a group of people who were crossing the road in Temple Place, WC2.

Hammond, who was driving silver Audi TT, began beeping her car horn at the group.

Hammond was on the phone, so the victim tapped on her car window and asked her to get off her phone; angered by this, Hammond started to swear at the victim.

She then left her car and pursued the victim, kicking her in the stomach and viciously biting off a piece of her ear before spitting it on the floor.

Hammond then returned to her car and fled the scene.

Detectives from Westminster CID began an investigation and Hammond was traced and charged with GBH with intent on Wednesday, 3 May.

Detective Constable Ryan Wilkinson, of Westminster CID, said: “This was a vicious and unnecessary assault. To kick a woman in the stomach and then bite off part of her ear, for no other reason than she was asked to get off the phone while driving seems incredible.

“Hammond has now been brought to account for her vile actions and I hope that the victim can gain some satisfaction from the lengthy term of imprisonment imposed on her attacker.”
