APPEARING AT THE CyWineFest on Saturday & Sunday

The Greek School of Mansfield Group

Since its founding, the Greek Community School of Mansfield has remained committed to preserving Hellenic tradition and the arts. The children – proud descendants of Greece and Cyprus – are taught traditional dances and actively participate in both school and community cultural events.

A highlight in the school’s history was its participation in the National Celebration held on March 9, 2014, at the historic Newstead Abbey, former residence of the renowned philhellene, Lord Byron. Seven Greek Community Schools from Central Britain (Birmingham, Coventry, Derby, Leicester, Mansfield, Nottingham & Sheffield), with 120 students and their teachers, gathered to honour the national anniversaries of March 25th, 1821 and April 1st, 1955. The event drew a large audience of diaspora members and official guests, making it a truly memorable occasion.

Over the years, dance instructors from Greece and Cyprus have shared their passion and knowledge of traditional Greek dances with the students. This year, Ms Margarita Efthymiou will lead her dance group in a performance at the Cypriot Wine Festival, promising to uplift the audience with lively music and vibrant dance moves.

The Greek School of Mansfield continues to be a vibrant centre of Hellenic heritage in the UK, nurturing the spirit of our culture and passing it on to future generations.

Peter Vassila – Magician

Based in London, Peter Vassila is a magician providing world-class entertainment for adults.

Peter first discovered his passion for magic after seeing a magician perform at his fifth birthday party. Being gifted a magic set on the same day set the wheels in motion for Peter to start learning everything he could about the art form and he has not looked back since!

This life-long interest in magic influenced Peter’s decision to study Psychology at University College London. It was here that he learnt about perception, memory function and the cognitive biases that people are influenced by when observing events. He now uses this knowledge in his performances to delight and amaze his audiences.

Peter specialises in close-up card magic, skilled demonstrations of sleight of hand and mind reading demonstrations which are unlike anything you will have seen before.

He strongly believes that magic is not about tricking people but rather about providing them with the opportunity to experience a true moment of astonishment. If done correctly, this is an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives.
