Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain says he is very impressed with St Andrew the Apostle School – not only for the way the school functions, but the way in which the students conduct themselves and appreciate what the school is doing for them.
His comments came during a visit to the school in North London Business Park, New Southgate, on Thursday (12 May). The Archbishop, who played a vital role in helping to establish the school which opened in 2013, sat and chatted to Year 8 and 9 students over lunch to find out about their experiences as secondary school students in a Greek Orthodox faith school.
He then toured the school with Headteacher Mr. Robert Ahearn, dropping in on classes and wishing students every success with their forthcoming end of year exams. He also told them to look after their teachers who worked so hard to ensure their future happiness and success.
During a special assembly for Year 7, His Eminence talked about the significance of Christ’s resurrection following the recent celebration of Easter by Orthodox Christians and greeted each student personally, offering them an icon depicting the resurrection.
The Archbishop, who was smiling throughout his visit, described his happiness with the school’s continuing growth and achievements.
He concluded: “The functioning of the school is very impressive and I noticed how disciplined and caring the students are with their studies. I am very happy and pleased to be here and wish everyone every success for the future and the fulfillment of their own and the school’s aspirations.”
Mr. Ahearn said: “It was a great honour to welcome the Archbishop back to St Andrew’s to see how much we’ve achieved and how happy our students are. There was certainly a lot of laughing and chatter as he engaged with students and staff around the school and we are extremely grateful for his continued support and prayers. “
