The Manager of the Cyprus National football team Bambos Christodoulou today has decided not to continue to offer his services as National coach.
In a meeting today at the Cypriot football Association head quarters in Nicosia between Bambos Christodoulou and the management committee of the Cypriot football League a press release informed us that a renewal contract was offered to Bambos Christodoulou and that he declined this offer.
The Cypriot Football Association would like to thank Bambos Christodoulou for his services and wish him all the best for the future.
Bambos Christodoulou played as a defensive midfielder for Olympiakos Nicosia in the Cyprus First Division, between 1990–1995, having moved from Doxa Katokopias, which then played in the second division of Cyprus. He subsequently had a brief spell at AEK Larnaca in the first division, before deciding to become a manager at the age of 39 in the 2006 season for Doxa Katokopias. From there he went to Olympiakos (Nicosia) then to AEL where he won AEL’s first Championship since 1968 and reached the Challenge Cup Final in the same season.
Bambos became Cyprus National team manager in January 2014 and took them to nearly reaching the European finals through the play offs after defeating Bosnia and Israel and had narrow defeats versus Wales and Belgium.
He even brought the Cypriot Football association to have close ties with the KOPA Football League in England by visiting us here in the UK.
