LECTURERS at Barnet and Southgate College are set to strike today in a row with education bosses over their annual pay rise.
Members of the University and College Union are picketing college campuses in High Barnet, Grahame Park, and Southgate after lecturers were offered a below-inflation pay rise of 0.7 per cent.
UCU branch secretary David Armstrong, said the industrial action was a “last resort”.
“It is disrespectful to offer 0.7 per cent when that doesn’t keep pace with the cost of living,” he told The Press. “We have had sub-inflation pay rises for the past five years. I think we are taken for granted. We work our socks off and we are living under the threat of Ofsted inspections all the time.
“Of course we regret deeply any impact that this has on students. We are all dedicated professionals, but we are left with no option if our employer takes us for granted year on year.”
