CCTV appeal over luggage thefts after suitcase containing £30,000 of valuables stolen

Police have released CCTV images as part of an investigation into a series of high-value luggage thefts on trains travelling into and out of London.

British Transport Police said one incident involved a suitcase containing valuables worth £30,000, which was stolen at around 9pm on 8 July.

The passenger had placed her suitcase in a designated luggage rack on a train departing London King’s Cross. According to police, a man removed it when the service reached Peterborough and left the train with it.

The victim discovered the suitcase was missing when she reached her destination and reported the theft.

Officers want to identify and speak to the man pictured, who they believe may have information that could help their investigation.

PC Chris Pepper said luggage theft could cause significant distress, with belongings often carrying sentimental as well as financial value. He urged the public to help officers investigating the linked offences.

Anyone who recognises the man should text 61016, quoting reference 838 of 8 July.

Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
