Celebration Event Marks Opening of Supported Living Scheme in Haringey

A new supported living facility for adults with learning disabilities was officially opened on Friday 31st July by Haringey Council.

Linden House, a former residential home in Tottenham, will support adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to live as independently as possible.

The £1.3 million development is the result of a partnership between Haringey Council and the Avenues Group who are specialist providers of complex social care services. The National Health Service England (NHSE) provided capital grant funding of £652,000 towards the build.

Councillor Sarah James, Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, declared the building officially open at an event which offered adults and health partners the opportunity to enjoy a tour of the building, meet Linden House staff, and those involved in the design and build.

“It was an honour to officially open Linden House and see first-hand the fantastic facilities on offer, commented Cllr James. “The development is a great addition to our community and is a prime example of what can be delivered through innovative partnerships that put service users at the heart of everything we do. Our key focus will be on delivering personalised outcomes, preventing hospital admissions and providing appropriate levels of support to individuals in a safe and secure environment within the community.”

The facility was completed mid-July and enables residents to live independently, for longer in a supportive environment, and with access to 24-hour on-site care. Set in landscaped gardens and designed to cater for the needs of individuals, each apartment boasts a spacious living area that comprises a separate bedroom and living room, fully adapted kitchen and ensuite bathroom. Ground floor flats are wheelchair accessible.

Chief Executive of Avenues, Jo Land, added:

“Avenues is delighted to be working alongside another London borough which shares our commitment to improving the lives of people with autism and complex needs, helping them move out of secure hospitals back into the community where they belong.

“Haringey has provided an exceptional environment for these people to move into, and our local support teams, PBS specialists and management team will now be focused on providing them with the exceptional support they deserve.”
