Counterfeit electronic goods worth an estimated £2,000 have been seized during a joint council and police operation in Edmonton.
Enfield Council Trading Standards officers and Metropolitan Police visited 15 second-hand mobile phone shops between 15 and 17 September as part of Operation Reckoning.
Items seized included imitation AirPods, Apple Pencils, USB cables, phone cases and Sony PlayStation 4 controllers.
The council said the operation followed concerns about mobile phone theft, particularly in Enfield Town, and aimed to identify stolen devices and disrupt illegal supply chains.
Business owners were advised about their responsibilities under the Trade Marks Act 1994 and the need to source genuine products from traceable suppliers. Some could provide only a supplier’s name and telephone number, without invoices.
Trading Standards officers have begun investigating the wholesalers supplying the counterfeit goods.
The council warned that counterfeit electrical products can present overheating, electric shock and fire risks.
An Apple representative and local neighbourhood policing teams also supported the operation.
