Cyprus’ first ever tiger is called Lara and she was born eighty days ago at Paphos zoo in Peyia.
This is what Cyprus News Agency reported on Thursday, also releasing photos of the zoo’s new ‘darling’.
“The baby tiger’s hair is very rich and colourful and she is very sociable and very playful,” zoo vet Christos Yiapanis (pictured with Lara) was quoted saying.
But unfortunately the mother rejected her for reasons no one is aware of and zoo staff have undertaken feeding Lara, he added.
Lara belongs to the Siberian family breed and both her parents are residents of the zoo.
The baby tiger gets milk from the bottle and recently also started eating minced meat.
Yiapanis said it is hard work because Lara needs to be fed regularly but her weight increases consistently and that’s good news.
