Fruit and vegetables delivered for pupils at Kouklia primary and nursery school were half eaten by rats while their excrement was found in the crates. The edibles were not consumed, thanks to the powers of observation of the school’s head who refused to take delivery and informed the Education Ministry. The ministry has instructed schools not to take deliveries from the specific company until the whole issue is clarified.
Kouklia community head and chairman of the school board Michalis Solonas confirmed the incident and asked that responsibilities be apportioned for criminal negligence.
The school was visited on Tuesday by the primary education supervisor at the district office of the ministry who attended a meeting with the head and the community leader. He told CAN that the ministry’s only concern was the safety and health of the children. And he congratulated the head for her handling of the matter. An Agriculture Ministry official has also visited the school, he added.
