Cyprus football kicks off

Cyprus football league kicked off this weekend for the 80th year with three matches all ending 1-0 with wins for AEL, Anorthosis and Omonia

AEL beat Ermis Aradippou away from home 1-0 with their lone goal coming from Rueben Jurado.

Omonia beat Alki 1-0 at their home ground the GSP stadium in front of the day’s biggest crowd of 7,000 fans with a goal from Croatian defender Franjo Prce just before the half time break.

A 82nd minute goal from Georgian striker Beka Mikeltadze was enough for Anorthosis to beat Doxa Katokopias.

FIxtures involving Apoel, Apollon and AEK were postponed as the three teams are preparing for the second leg of their UEFA’s Europa League play-off round games this week.

Apoel will be playing in Kazakhstan against Astana who they lead by 1-0 from their first leg in Nicosia.

Apollon play at home to Basle who they led by 2-1 but then lost their first leg 3-2

And AEK play Slovakian team Trecin at home in the second leg after drawing 1-1 away.
