AEK went to the top of the table alongside APOEL on Saturday night after beating Enosis Neon Paralimni 2-1 in Larnaca.
AEK scored very quickly when Joan Tomas pounced on a mistake in the Enosis area and fed Nicos Englezou who opened the scoring.
AEK finally scored again on 58 minutes with Polish left back Adam Marciniak
Enosis reduced the score in the 86th minute with Milan Svojic whose strike went in off the post.
Anorthosis could go level with AEK and APOEL – who beat Aris 4-0 in the other game – if they beat Doxa on Monday night.
Apoel’ four goals came from Giorgos Efrem who won a penalty on 24 minutes. Fernando Cavenaghi – who has now scored five goals in four matches –tucked away the result penalty. The second an own goal.
Tomas de Vincenti addded a third when he met Efrem’s cross De Vincenti also scored the fourth.
New Salamis continued their fine form after their third win on the trot after beating Ermis Aradippou and are now third place on Saturday night.
New Salamis started badly and were 1-0 down to a Alhassane Keita who scored in the seventh minute.
The red’s drew level with Ivan Curjuric from a deflected free-kick.
Dimitar Makriev got the winning goal with seven minutes to go.
Apollon bounced back from their shock 2-0 defeat to Nea Salamina last weekend by beating Ethnikos Achna 5-2 on Saturday night.
Ethnikos scored first with Brazilian Eduardo Pincelli. Apollon equalised and within ten minutes were 3-1 up with goals from Elizio who met Alex’s cross on 26 minutes before Abraham Gneki-Guie scored their second Croatian signing Dejan Mezga added a third on 33 minutes . Fotis Papoulis added a fourth just before halftime.
Ioannis Hadjivasilis on 77 minutes reduced the score but Apollon had the last word as Elizio grabbed his second of the night for Apollon in the third minute of stoppage time.
The victory saw the Limassol club remain second alongside Anorthosis – who take on Doxa Katokopia on Monday night.
