Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued an elderly man from a fire at a block of flats on Palmerston Road in Bowes Park, Haringey, yesterday morning.
The man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by the London Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital.
Part of the ground floor of the one bedroom flat was damaged by fire.
The Brigade was called at 1003 and the fire was brought under control at 1039. The fire is believed to have been caused by the careless disposal of cigarettes.
