A former Conservative candidate for Enfield Lock has pleaded guilty to making a false declaration in nomination papers.
Michael Jefferson Fadaka 34, (29.09.90) of Bedale Road, Enfield appeared at Wood Green Crown Court today, Wednesday 4 February, where he admitted to the offence – which is contrary to Sections 65A(1A)(b) and 168 of the Representation of the People Act 1983.
Fadaka stood as a Conservative candidate for Enfield Lock Ward in the May 2014 local elections.
That month an allegation was reported to police relating to potential false declarations on nomination forms.
Following inquiries by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Special Enquiry Team, Fadaka was arrested on 13 May in connection with the investigation. He was subsequently charged.
Sentencing is due to take place at the same court on 18 March.
DI Howard Holt of the Special Enquiry Team said: “Today’s conviction demonstrates the Met’s commitment to ensuring free and fair elections for all of our communities. Since last year’s elections the team has received over 171 allegations of electoral malpractice across many of the London boroughs. The majority of those do not constitute an offence; however in this case a thorough investigation has led to today’s successful conviction.
“In the run up to the General Elections we will continue to work closely with the Electoral Commission and local authorities across London in a proactive and preventative capacity to protect the integrity of the electoral process in London.
