GREAT WAKERING ROVERS 1 v HARINGEY BOROUGH 1

Haringey Borough finished their season with a visit to Great Wakering Rovers and had
to settle for a draw but for some poor shooting and good saves the match should have seen more than the two goals that were scored.
The first half belonged to Great Wakering, time after time they had their chances but effort after effort went wide, high or straight at Harry Palmer in Boro’s goal. The deadlock was broken by Haringey ten minutes before half-time, when Dan Aristidou side footed home from close range after an Anthony McDonald shot was palmed out by Adam Seal.

The second half was completely the opposite of the first, with Haringey in control, but again shooting was at premium. Shots were either hitting the netting behind the goal or the home defence were coping before Haringey’s attackers could finish.
Great Wakering equalised just past the hour mark, when Harry Palmer got down to a fierce shot to divert the ball onto the post and out for a corner, which was swung in and Great Wakering’s Lewis Sparrow finished.
After that the game notched up a gear but chances were spurned left, right and centre. Haringey’s Rakim Richards, Ralston Gabriel, Dean Fenton and a couple of others all had chances to put this game to bed but a winning goal was not forthcoming for either side.

So Haringey’s season finished like it started so many months ago with a draw. A wonderful achievement to reach 50 points and fifthteen place, especially as they only had 13 points from 20 matches going into December. Well down team.

Well that’s all over until pre-season, some point in July. A new challenge awaits and maybe play-off aspirations. One can hope.
