A yellow warning issued by the Cyprus Meteorological Department on Thursday remains in force, with isolated thunderstorms expected until 17:00 on Friday.
“An atmospheric disturbance, located to the west of Cyprus and accompanied by an organised band of rain and thunderstorms, is expected to gradually affect our island from tonight,” the Meteorological Department had reported, noting that isolated heavy thunderstorms are expected at intervals, initially in the western half of the island and gradually spreading to other areas.
It is added that rainfall intensity is likely to range between 35 and 55 millimetres per hour, whilst locally there may be hail and strong gusts of wind, which could reach 8 Beaufort.
