Tune into ITV at 9pm this Friday evening as a new documentary reveals how fraudsters will do everything they can to steal your identity.
Detectives from the Dedicated Crime and Plastic Card Unit (DCPCU) which is run by Officers from the City of London and Metropolitan Police forces show how telephone banking fraud is used by fraudsters to scam its victims out of thousands of pounds. The programme follows the officers as they hunt an elusive major criminal who hijacked the credit card accounts and identities of hundreds of British victims.
Over a six-month period the officer’s monitored phone calls being made by Lee Chisholm to his victims and used cutting edge technology and surveillance techniques to evidence the criminal activity.
Lee Chisholm, aged 45, was convicted of fraud by false representation in May 2015. He was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment.
Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Clark said:
“Fraudsters will pose as whoever they need to be to elicit personal details from you. Whether they portray themselves on the phone to be a banking institution or some other corporate organisation, whatever they need to be they will be in order to commit fraud.
“We encourage people to watch the programme so that they can see exactly how these types of fraudsters operate and what can be done to avoid falling into their trap”.
