Joan Ryan MP will be visiting the North Enfield Foodbank tomorrow, Thursday 31 August, from 11:30am-12:30pm, at Jubilee Central, Unit 2 Lumina Way, Enfield, EN1 1FS.
Joan will be visiting the foodbank as part of End Hunger UK’s ‘Holiday Hunger’ campaign. She will also be meeting with local volunteers, to discuss the support the foodbank provides in Enfield.
According to the latest research by the Trussell Trust, between 1 April 2016 and 31 March 2017, the Trust provided 5,974 people in Enfield – including 2,434 children – with three day emergency food supplies.
End Hunger UK’s ‘Holiday Hunger’ campaign follows a recent report by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Hunger and Food Poverty, which found that ‘an estimated three million children risk being hungry in the school holidays.’
Joan Ryan MP said: “It is shocking that, according to research by the Trussell Trust, the London Borough of Enfield now has the fourth highest foodbank usage in London.
That is not a record of which the Government can be proud, as their policies are widening the gap significantly between rich and poor, and driving so many children into abject poverty.
By visiting the North Enfield Foodbank I intend to not only highlight the scale of this problem, but to work with organisations such as the Trussell Trust and ensure children in Enfield have access to nutritious food 365 days a year.”
