Division One
New Salamis 3 Anorthosis 3
What a game this was and it ended up with probably the biggest shock of the season. Last seasons’s champions New Salamis must have had one eye on their FA Sunday cup semi final this Sunday because they were just not themselves until the last ten minutes.
Anorthosis came to win and were on the attack from the first minute with George Gregoriou spearheading their attack. It was not long before they took the lead after 20 minutes when the red’s rearguard left George Gregoriou free one to one with the New Salamis keeper Xiouris and George was able to slot the ball home and then ten minutes after that Anorthosis were awarded a penalty and George Gregoriou was on hand again to score from the penalty spot to give Anorthosis a 2-0 lead.
The second half New Salamis with an uphill struggle were down to ten men when Steve Velandia was sent off and the Anorthosis goal keeper Anthony Manoli in fine form but still were able to reduce the score to 2-1 when Kyri Portou scored from the penalty spot. New Salamis were now pressing for goals but Anorthosis were still dangerous on the counter attack with both teams creating chances but the blues Anorthosis scored a third wit a great solo effort from Danny Coolridge.
New Salamis in the last 15 minutes blasted the Anorthosis goal really pressing for a goal and were rewarded with two goals from Deniz Mehmet who blasted forward with two great individual goals to get the reds out of trouble.
Division Two
Komi Kebir 3 Achna 1
Komi Kebir stayed well in the promotion picture with a well earned 3-1 win over a resilient Achna side. Komi took the lead in the first half when Jason Lambri broke down the left and crossed for Andreas Bryant to tap home at the far post.
Andreas returned the favour in the second half putting his strike partner through on goal and Jason Lambri finished well for 2-0.
On 70 minutes Jason was clean through again and finished coolly to make it 3-0.
Achna’s Theo score a penalty with 5 mins to go and then some heroics from Jason Hayes in Komi’s goal saving twice from Chris Petrou ensured the points were safe for his team.
Division One Cup
First Round
Apoel 3 Brotherhood 1
What an very exciting game this was, real end to end football.
Brotherhood opened the scoring after a mistake by an Apoel defender who failed to clear the ball and Aaron was there to pounce and score.
For long periods Brotherhood had further chances to increase the score but were not clinical enough in front of goal
In the second half Apoel came out fighting playing attractive football and were more solid, they were rewarded with three goals, two from Michael Spencer and one from Vince.
Apoel now go into the quarter finals.
