Larnaka Airport ranked among Europe’s best according to ACI Europe

Larnaka Airport earned second place among Europe’s best according to Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe).

In an announcement, Hermes Airports, that manages Larnaka and Pafos airports, said that the airport was “Highly Commended” in the “Best Airports in Europe” Awards (5 to 10 million passengers’ category) during the 35th Annual Congress and General Assembly of ACI Europe which took place in Athens, on June 19.

The “Best Airports in Europe” award (category 5 to 10 million passengers) was presented to Sofia’s Vasil Levski Airport, with Larnaka Airport earning the second place among its European peers, receiving the “Highly Commended” recognition, it adds.

According to Hermes Airports, this “significant recognition has been added to the accolades of Larnaka International Airport”, it notes.

“This accolade from the international airport body, ACI Europe, highlights Hermes Airports’ commitment to quality, growth of connectivity, sustainability, and excellent passenger service. Hermes Airports stood out for its holistic growth strategy, which balances environmental stewardship, community value, and operational resilience”, it said. At the same time, it adds, the company’s initiatives and strategy for improving air connectivity—aligned with Cyprus’ tourism objectives—place a strong emphasis on addressing seasonality.

Upon receiving the “Highly Commended” distinction from ACI Europe, Hermes Airports’ CEO, Eleni Kaloyirou, said that this “this accolade is a testament to our team’s collective efforts and our commitment to continuous improvement. We remain dedicated to executing our strategy and placing Larnaka Airport firmly on the map of Europe’s leading airports.”

Hermes also notes that, as a result of “the successful strategy to enhance air connectivity across Cyprus’ airports”, the latest ACI Europe Air Connectivity Report 2025 published this week, ranks Larnaka and Pafos Airports first, among European airports in terms of the growth rate in direct air connectivity, in terms of number of flights and total destinations served. “The increase recorded for 2025 compared to 2024 is an impressive 18%”, it said.

Moreover, it adds, Cyprus ranks second among European countries in the growth of direct air connectivity in 2025 compared to 2019, with a 22% increase. According to the company, based on the same report, Cyprus ranks third among European countries in the growth of total air connectivity (direct and indirect flights) for 2025 compared to 2019, with an 8% increase.
