New roof laid at £9million supported living development for older Haringey residents

The final piece of the roof was laid at the £9 million Lorenco House development on Pretoria Road, Tottenham yesterday, March 1. The event was attended by Cllr Peter Morton, Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, David Lammy, Member of Parliament for Tottenham and senior representatives from the Greater London Authority and housing association One Housing.

The new 52 home development will enable 100 older Haringey residents with care needs to live independently in their own homes.

When completed Lorenco House will provide 44 one bed and eight two bed apartments, alongside award-winning care and support provided by a specialist on-site team.

The facility will also boast first class facilities including a medical and wellbeing centre, landscaped gardens, guest bedrooms for visitors and a stylish dining area. Eight of the rooms are specially designed to provide high quality care for people with dementia.

The development is being delivered in partnership between Haringey Council and Season, the senior living arm of One Housing. Haringey Council and Season are delivering a further £9 million supported living development at nearby Protheroe House, which will deliver a further 50 senior living homes. In November the final brick was laid at this site.

Cllr Peter Morton, Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said:

“I’m delighted to see Haringey’s new supported living housing for older people take a key step towards its completion. Alongside its sister site Protheroe House, Lorenco House will enable more than one hundred older Haringey residents to live in state-of-the-art affordable accommodation, with a specialist team onsite for their care and support needs. I look forward to meeting the first residents when we open both buildings later this year.”

Alan Williams Group Director of Development at One Housing said:

“Today marks the beginning of completion of this exciting development. Each flat is specifically designed to give older people security and comfort. Our design standards mean each flat should cost an average of £5 per week to run for residents, which is important to many older people.”

Work on both Lorenco House and the Protheroe House developments is being delivered by Galliford Try Partnerships and both schemes are due to be completed in summer 2016, with all of the properties allocated for affordable rent.
