Police say 70 pairs of football boots have been swiped from the training pitches of first division club New Salamis.
The boots – which are reportedly valued at €14,000 in total – are believed to have gone missing sometime between September 14 and 15 from the club’s training facility in Meneou village. Nea Salamina’s home ground is the Ammochostos Stadium in central Larnaca.
The football boots had been taken from the changing rooms and are said to cost around €200 each. The culprit or culprits are believed to have broken in via a small window in the shower rooms. Four pairs of goalkeeper gloves, worth €100, were also stolen while the club has reported that the facility was also vandalised.
The boots are not insured while there also no CCTV cameras installed at the training ground. The theft was reported at Kiti Police Station by the kit manager of the club.
