One of our own UK Cypriot Luke Nicoli celebrates a national award in his role as publications editor at Brighton & Hove Albion FC.

Luke Nicoli, whose family hail from Patriki village, is celebrating a national award in his role as publications editor at Brighton & Hove Albion FC.

Luke, who has previously worked for a host of football titles, including FourFourTwo, Match and Shoot, has received the news that Brighton’s matchday magazine has been voted Premier League Programme of the Season for 2017/18.

Awarded each January by Programme Monthly, Albion took top spot this year – ahead of West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City – and it caps another award-winning season for Luke, after the club’s programme previously finished top of the pile in the Championship on two separate occasions, winning both the Programme Monthly and Football League awards.

“It’s always nice to be recognised in this way,” said Luke, who is also a key contributor to England and other FA-related publications. “A lot of hard work, long hours and dedication goes into producing each issue, but we’re fortunate to have a very professional team to call upon – and I believe that is reflected in the quality of the product.

“In the ever-changing world of digital media, it’s always a challenge to come up with a publication that provides an alternative for Albion fans come match day, and the feedback we’ve had this season has been excellent. We’ve also received plenty of compliments from opposing teams, too, which is always encouraging to hear.

“I’d like to thank our contributors – written and photographic – our production and design teams and, of course, the Albion players and management for being so accommodating. It’s nice to know we’ve got a Premier League publication for a Premier League football club!”

In their press release that accompanied the award, Programme Monthly stated: ‘Returning to a perfect bound format for 2017/18, this is a top-notch publication. Unusually there are a large number of interviews with members of the current squad, while the historical section is packed with lots of quality as well as quantity. A high standard of design also enhances some excellent content’.
