On Saturday a protest and event was held at Edmonton Green to inform the local community about the planned Edmonton incenerator.
This campaign started in early 2019 with a group of families who live near the Edmonton incinerator. They were familiar with the incinerator’s plumes of pollution and concerned about the environmental and public health risks of the rebuild.
Theyve’ve joined forces with concerned residents across North London and we view this campaign as an opportunity to build a greener, cleaner London.
The waste-to-energy incinerator is run by the North London Waste Authority (NLWA), serves seven London local authorities, and is planning to expand to increase its capacity by 200,000 tonnes.the use of incineration by the local authorities – Camden, Barnet, Enfield, Islington, Haringey, Hackney and Waltham Forest – meant recycling rates were low, at 30%.
