ST ANDREW THE APOSTLE GREEK ORTHODOX SCHOOL CELEBRATES EXCEPTIONAL GCSE RESULTS

St Andrew the Apostle School is celebrating an exceptional first set of GCSE results. 52% of all Year 11 students achieved the gold standard EBACC measure (a good grade in English, maths, science, language, history/geography), which places St Andrew in the top 5% of schools in the country. Our English results were equally outstanding with 88% achieving a grade 4 or higher in English Language and 72% achieving a grade 5 or higher. 75% of students achieved a good grade in science with more than a quarter of these grades at 9-7. Students achieved particularly well at the very top of the ability range, with 10% of students getting top grades (9-7) across the board. Four students achieved AS Level in Year 11. We are particularly proud of our top achiever, Taniya Jamil, who secured 9 top grade 9s and 1 grade 8. Some other exceptional performers were:

Guy Coker: 3 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s, 1 A and 1 B

Marianna Christodoulou: 4 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s, 1 grade 7, 1 A*and 1 B

Niamh Dermody: 1 grade 9, 5 grade 8s, 1 grade 7, 1 grade 6 and 1 B

The school’s Headteacher, Mr Robert Ahearn, commented on the results:
“I am absolutely thrilled with this year’s outstanding GCSE results. Our founding cohort have done us proud and I share in their delight as they celebrate their successes today. There were individual successes at all ability levels and behind every set of examination results there is a personal story of hard work, commitment and perseverance. These outcomes are a result of the hard work of the students, the support of their family and friends and the dedication of the staff at the school.

We are delighted that so many of our students are joining us for 6th Form; teachers and students will be working towards equally exceptional ‘A’ level results in 2020”

RET CEO said, “St Andrew the Apostle has been outstanding since it opened, so these GCSE results are excellent but not surprising. Students and staff are to be warmly congratulated on their achievements; as are local parents and the wider community who have so consistently supported the school.”

Archbishop Gregorios was delighted with the news. “Let me convey to everyone involved in this resounding success my warmest congratulations for this remarkable academic achievement which follows the tradition of excellence you established in 2013”

Chair of Governors, Mr Yiannis Pareas, stated: “It has been a wonderful journey of five years from the creation of the school to these first amazing GCSE results. This success arises from the joint endeavour of teachers, students and parents working in partnership with our sponsor RET and with the blessing and support of the Church”
