Tottenham – fire at derelict police station

Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a derelict police station on Hermitage Road in Tottenham this afternoon.

Part of the ground, first and second floors and most of the roof of the building were damaged by fire. The Brigade’s 999 Control centre received more than 20 calls to the visible blaze.

Local road closures were in place while crews brought the blaze under control.

The Brigade was called at 1343 and the fire was under control at 1610. Fire crews from Holloway, Stoke Newington, Tottenham, Shoreditch and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene. Crews are likely to remain at the scene damping down hotspots into the evening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
