Cypriot Defence Minister Christoforos Fokaides has said that in order for the road to a solution to open up Turkey must realise that a solution should reunify Cyprus under conditions of freedom, security and peaceful co-existence.
Ankara should respect the human rights of all the island`s lawful residents, he said in his address on Sunday at the annual national memorial service for those who perished during the 1974 Turkish invasion as well as missing persons from the Emba community in Paphos District.
Fokaides said everyone should work together to support the effort of Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, who has been working tirelessly, consistently and responsibly to reach a solution to the Cyprus problem.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN led talks resumed in May 2015 aiming to reunify the island under a federal roof.
