Twenty-five unaccompanied minors left Cyprus and relocated to Germany through voluntary scheme

Twenty-five unaccompanied minors left Cyprus on Thursday for Germany with the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare noting that the first pilot Programme for the Voluntary Relocation of Unaccompanied Minors has been successfully completed.

According to an announcement by the Deputy Ministry, the Social Welfare Services, with the Asylum Service of the Deputy Ministry of Immigration and International Protection and in cooperation with the German authorities, agreed to the voluntary relocation of twenty-five unaccompanied minors.

Therefore, it said, on Thursday, twenty-five unaccompanied minors left Cyprus for Germany, accompanied by representatives of the International Organization for Migration.

The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare also said that it assesses the Voluntary Relocation Programme as a tool of “utmost importance” in the management of the large flows of unaccompanied minors recorded in the Republic of Cyprus, but also as a programme which contributes to ensuring the best interests of the minors themselves, their rights and their final settlement.

Efforts to include a larger number of unaccompanied minors in the programme in question in cooperation with other EU countries would continue, the Ministry said.
