UEFA Champions League Round Up

The Champions League debutants Young Boys scored their first goal and picked up their first point with a deserved 1-1 home draw as Valencia failed to put pressure on Manchester United in Group H.

Real Madrid edge past Viktoria Plzen but time is short for Julen Lopetegui

Michy Batshuayi gave Valencia a first-half lead – their first goal in this season’s group stages – but Guillaume Hoarau equalised for the Swiss club with a penalty after the break.

Hoffenheim’s Joelinton scored in stoppage time to give the German club a dramatic 3-3 draw against Lyon in a rollercoaster Group F match.

Hoffenheim came from a goal down to lead 2-1 before the visitors scored twice to go back in front until the Brazilian’s late tap-in.

Edin Dzeko added two more goals to the hat-trick he scored against Viktoria Plzen as Roma eased to a 3-0 home win over CSKA Moscow in Group G.

Bayern Munich scored twice in two minutes to win 2-0 at AEK Athens to continue their recovery from a dip in form and climb to the top of Group E. Javi Martínez volleyed in after 61 minutes and Robert Lewandowski tapped in their second goal two minutes later for Bayern’s second win in three group matches. In the other game in Group E, Noussair Mazraoui scored a stoppage-time winner as Ajax claimed what could be a vital 1-0 win over Benfica in their Group E clash at the Johan Cruyff Arena. Full-back Mazraoui’s shot from the edge of the box was deflected into the net as he scored for the second Champions League game in a row to move Ajax level with Bayern at the top of their pool.

Barcelona closed in qualification for the Champions League last 16 after goals from Rafinha and Jordi Alba handed the hosts a 2-0 victory over Inter Milan.

Napoli were denied top spot in Champions League Group C by Angel Di Maria’s stunning stoppage-time equaliser for PSG, ensuring a 2-2 draw.

Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens had twice given Napoli the lead and the Italians seemed on course to build on their victory over Liverpool earlier this month.

But PSG, who had equalised through Mario Rui’s own goal, were given hope of making the last-16 when Di Maria dispatched a brilliant 20-yard curler in the third minute of added time.

Mohamed Salah scored twice as Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Champions League with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Red Star Belgrade at Anfield.

Roberto Firmino opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Salah netted on the stroke half-time.

Salah then scored his 50th Liverpool goal from the penalty spot before Sadio Mane rounded off the scoring, having also seen a penalty saved.

Spurs let another lead slip in Group B in 2-2 draw at PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, leaving them five points behind second-placed Inter Milan and eight behind group leaders Barcelona.

Brazil international Moura scored along with Harry Kane as Spurs went 2-1 up in the Dutch city but Hugo Lloris was sent off before Luuk de Jong’s 87th-minute equaliser.
