Vaccinated employees to be exempt from undergoing weekly rapid test soon

Cyprus residents who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 soon are set to become exempt from an obligation of undergoing a rapid antigen test on a weekly basis, credible sources have said.

At the same time, the same sources, have said that the vaccination programme is going ahead following the same pattern as recently that is to say with the vaccination portal becoming available for specific ages for about two days, granting people of that age with the right of setting up an appointment for their vaccination and their protection against COVID-19.

In addition, it is said that the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance are beginning to categorise people who work in essential services, to begin with at the country`s airports and ports aiming to offer them the right to be vaccinated at the same time as the ongoing vaccination of different age groups.

In the meantime, the same sources have said that EU member states received a recommendation by Johnson & Johnson asking them to put on hold the use of the vaccine temporarily while the matter of a small number of cases of thrombosis is being evaluated by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the FDA. Cyprus had just received a first small batch of 2,400 Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
