Police arrested two prison wardens on Tuesday in connection with the suicide of a 26-year-old inmate found hanged in his cell on Monday morning.
A police statement said two wardens had been arrested and a third warrant had been issued. The third warden was picked up later Tuesday morning.
They were detained on Monday in connection with dereliction of duty, disobedience, and falsifying records, the statement said.
Authorities initially said Andreas Spyrou had been found by other inmates around an hour after guards carried out what is understood to be a routine check at 6.15am.
But a state pathologist said later in the day that the inmate had been dead for 6-8 hours.
The 26-year-old car mechanic from Palouriotissa had been sentenced to life in prison in 2009 for the premeditated murder of Stavros Georgiou, 23, from Analiontas.
Spyrou had stabbed Georgiou 27 times, in the head, back and chest when an argument over €540 for a spare part got out of hand in October 2008.
