George Eugeniou

It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that Theatro Technis announces the passing of its beloved founder, George Eugeniou.
A visionary artist, actor, writer, producer, poet, a tireless advocate for cultural expression, and a true pioneer in the world of theatre,
George passed away peacefully at the age of 93, at 8am at the Royal Free Hospital following a heart attack earlier in the week.
George Eugeniou was born in Limassol, Cyprus. He came to London in 1950 to study theatre and received a scholarship to the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, where he won Spotlight and Webber Cup awards for his acting.
In 1954 he joined Dundee Repertory Theatre in Scotland as an acting Assistant Stage Manager. He returned to London and joined a Cypriot amateur group under the auspices of The Cypriot Brotherhood with Paul Stasino, Anna
Koutayiar and Theo Moreas. In 1955 he joined Sir Donald Wolfit’s company with the play The Strong are Lonely by Fritz Hochwaelder, which toured major English cities. In 1956, he joined Joan Littlewood’s Theatre Workshop in
Stratford East with several productions, including the Quare Fellow by Brendan Behan.
Under his leadership and as artistic director of Theatro Technis in Camden, London, he wrote, adapted, produced and
directed hundreds of plays, musicals, short films, countless workshops, and community programs.
He leaves behind his wife, Maroulla and son Aris with love and cherished memories.
The family have asked us to gather to say our last goodbyes to George on Friday, January 10th 2025, at 2pm at Theatro Technis, 26 Crowndale Road, London NW1 1TT.
At 1 pm, the theatre will open to the general public and at 2pm, a short service begins.
At 3pm, the coffin will be taken away for a private cremation.
No flowers are required, but instead donations can be made to Theatro Technis.
No rsvp is needed but space is limited to first come, first served.
Με βαθιά θλίψη και βαθιά αίσθηση απώλειας το Θέατρο Τέχνης ανακοινώνει τον θάνατο του αγαπημένου ιδρυτή της, Γιώργου Ευγενίου.
Ένας οραματιστής καλλιτέχνης, ηθοποιός, συγγραφέας, παραγωγός, ποιητής,
ακούραστος υπέρμαχος της πολιτιστικής έκφρασης και αληθινός πρωτοπόρος στον κόσμο του θεάτρου, ο Γιώργος απεβίωσε ειρηνικά σε ηλικία 93 ετών, στις 8 το πρωί στο Royal Free Hospital μετά από καρδιακό επισόδειο νωρίτερα μέσα στην εβδομάδα.
Ο Γιώργος Ευγενίου γεννήθηκε στη Λεμεσό της Κύπρου. Ήρθε στο Λονδίνο το 1950 για να σπουδάσει θέατρο και έλαβε υποτροφία στην Ακαδημία Δραματικής Τέχνης Webber Douglas, όπου κέρδισε τα βραβεία Spotlight και Webber Cup για την
υποκριτική του.
Το 1954 εντάχθηκε στο Dundee Repertory Theatre στη Σκωτία ως βοηθός διευθυντής σκηνής. Επέστρεψε στο Λονδίνο και εντάχθηκε σε μια κυπριακή ερασιτεχνική ομάδα υπό την αιγίδα της Κυπριακής Αδελφότητας με τους Paul Stasino, Anna
Koutayiar και Theo Moreas. Το 1955 εντάχθηκε στην εταιρεία του Sir Donald Wolfit με το έργο The Strong are Lonely του Fritz Hochwaelder, το οποίο έκανε περιοδεία σε μεγάλες αγγλικές πόλεις. Το 1956, εντάχθηκε στο Theatre Workshop της Joan
Littlewood Stratford East με αρκετές παραγωγές, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του
Quare Fellow του Brendan Behan.
Υπό την ηγεσία του και ως καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής του Θεάτρου Τέχνης στο Camden στο Λονδίνο, έγραψε, διασκεύασε, παρήγαγε και σκηνοθέτησε εκατοντάδες θεατρικά έργα, μιούζικαλ, ταινίες μικρού μήκους, αμέτρητα εργαστήρια και κοινοτικά
προγράμματα.
Καταλείπει τη σύζυγό του, Μαρούλλα και τον γιο του Άρη με αγάπη και αγαπημένες αναμνήσεις.
Η οικογένεια μας ζήτησε να μαζευτούμε για να πούμε το τελευταίο αντίο στον Γιώργο την Παρασκευή, 10 Ιανουαρίου 2025, στις 2μμ, στο Θέατρο Τέχνης, 26 Crowndale Road, London NW1 1TT.
Στη 1μμ, το θέατρο θα ανοίξει για το ευρύ κοινό και στις 2μμ ξεκινάει σύντομη λειτουργία.
Στις 3μμ, το φέρετρο θα παραληφθεί για ιδιωτική καύση.
Δεν απαιτούνται λουλούδια, αλλά αντίθετα μπορούν να γίνουν εισφορές στο Θέατρο Τέχνης.
Δεν απαιτείται πρόσκληση, αλλά ο χώρος είναι περιορισμένος και θα
δοθεί προτεραιότητα στους πρώτους που θα παρευρεθούν.
