Young Chris Philippou wins His first CGS Golf trophy

Chris Philippou won his first major competition, the Liveras Foundation Trophy with a magnificent score of 39 points. Chris is following in his father’s footsteps (Tony Philippou), who in the last two years won 3 majors and the Player of the Year Award. Chris seems to be putting a lot of hard work in his golf and coupled with his dedication and enthusiasm and most importantly the rivalry with his father, I believe we will see a lot more of Chris on the winning rostrum.

Chris is a very easy going 25 year old young man. He runs his own company, VIP Client Care, from home.

The company is dedicated in helping VIPs with bookings to restaurants, clubs, bars, theatre and holidays. Some of his clients are Tottenham Hotspur footballers.

I asked him about his win and he said: < I had a great day, I was driving the ball very well but my putting was absolutely brilliant. It was one of those days that everything clicked together. I enjoyed the round very much despite the weather. It was a nice feeling when I learned that I won and I am hungry for more as I want to catch up with dad.>. Congratulations to Chris Philippou for an excellent win.

The first event of the season was reduced to 18 holes due to the bad weather. Thunder and lightning, persistent rain and hailstones ruined the day for the 53 members of the Cypriot Golf Society. Most members finished the 18 holes in the morning but the afternoon round was called off because of the dangers from the storms above. The Liveras Foundation Trophy was played on Thursday 19th April at Brocket Hall Golf Club. Our thanks and appreciation goes to Mr Dion Liveras and L & A investments Ltd for their generous support in sponsoring this event.

The first event of the season is always special to the members of the Cypriot Golf Society. The choice of Brocket Hall is always a favourite because of the two magnificent and challenging golf courses and also members come to show their support for the new Captain, Michael Tsangarides and make the start of his captaincy year happy and successful.

Everyone arrived at the clubhouse by 7.30am for the usual coffee & bacon roll and at 8.10am Peter Sandamas asked the Captain to come on stage with all the members gathering round. After a short introduction about Michael’s early years to when he joined the Society in 1992 and through to his successes in winning most events over the years. He used blown up photos of Michael to describe some moments of his life. Soon after “This is Your Life Sketch began with some brilliant acting from the three members involved. First Tasos Periclis through a phone link sent his greeting and wishes acting the friend Michael has in the Kenyan countryside. Angelo Georgiou played the Mongolian friend brilliantly with a convincing accent and gestures and the star of the show, Tony Philippou taking the part of Mr Gupta a friend from India. It was fantastic and had all the members in stitches, worthy of gong. It was brilliant and a very good stat to the day.

At 8.30 am everyone gather on the tee to watch the Captain hit his drive and the start of another season. The President Chris Antoniou cracked open a bottle of champagne and gave a toast to the captain and his playing partners. A firework rocket was sent up in the air making a loud bang, a signal that the new golfing season is about to start. The Captain got ready to tee off but got distracted and his ball was changed with an explosive ball. Captain not realizing, he hit at the ball exploiting and sending a mass of white smoke to the cheers of the members. He then proceeded to really tee off. He drove the ball well, it was a good shot. The 2012 golfing season began. The captain’s playing partners were the President, Chris Antoniou, the vice captain Andrew Savva and Tommay Thomas.
