A theatrical monologue in memory of those who gave their lives for freedom

This July, the Cultural Section of the Cyprus High Commission, in collaboration with the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK, invites you to experience a unique theatrical tribute to the memory of those who gave their lives for one of the highest ideals: freedom.
Letters to Freedom is not a play about death. It is a play about life – about young people who stood on the threshold of execution, and chose to write not about fear, hatred, or revenge, but about love, dignity, mothers, fiancées, and a free homeland they might never see. Their final letters – tender, clear, and astonishingly hopeful – become the heart of this monologue.
As these letters are read aloud on stage, a woman – a simple postal worker at first – is gradually transformed. By carrying their words, she becomes what they all addressed: Freedom herself.
Structured as a poetic journey through memory and resurrection, the play honours those whose voices refused to fade. It reminds us that the struggle for freedom is not abstract. It is human. It has names, faces, and handwriting.
