A very different A-Level Results Day for Haringey’s class of 2020

Haringey’s young people were receiving A-Level results today, at an unprecedented time amid a global pandemic.

Usually at the council we fill our timelines and news pages with images of young people getting their results, we chat to them about their plans, and celebrate their time spent at our schools.

This year, of course, looks very different, but Cllr Kaushika Amin, Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Families, has a message for local pupils.

Cllr Amin said:

Getting your exam results in any year can be daunting, but you, our young people, have been through so much in recent months with the uncertainty of the global pandemic and the challenges that it has brought. It has been a difficult time for all of us, so – if you feel you need support – don’t forget to reach out to the people around you who are there to help. I want to pay tribute to your resilience, hard work and determination. This is a big moment in your lives, and I want you to know how proud we are of you here at Haringey Council. Our fantastic pupils, schools, support staff and teachers are a credit to our borough. No matter what your next move is, I wish you all the very best for the future.

Eveleen Riordan, Haringey Council’s Assistant Director for Schools & Learning, also has this to say to our young people:

Results day is always a time of great nervousness and also excitement, this year more than ever given the unprecedented time our young people and our schools and colleges have had since March. Wishing you luck with your results today and reminding you that there is support and guidance for you in our schools and colleges, whatever the outcome for today.
