AEK U16 Blacks triumph v New Salamis to reach League Cup Final.
In a display of tactical discipline and resilience, AEK’s U16s blacks secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over New Salamis, propelling them to their 3rd cup final in 2 seasons and a chance to defend the trophy they won last season.
The match, characterised by a well organised AEK side, saw them withstand significant pressure from a dominant New Salamis side. Despite New Salamis controlling much of the possession, AEK’s adherence to discipline and willingness to work hard, saw them grind out a gritty win.
The decisive goal, with 10 minutes left to play, exemplified AEKs counter-attack tactics. Midfielder Kyros, picked the ball up in midfield and drove forward, releasing dangerous winger Tristan who beat his man and sent a fantastic cross in the box. AEK forward Charlie beat his defender sending his header onto the post and after some great work by the Salamis GK, Lucca pounced on the loose ball to prod it home.
Credit to both teams. Two good footballing sides put on a great game for their supporters and with so much riding on the game, it was played in good spirit and with an excellent display of sportsmanship.
Harsh for Salamis who played some great football and on another day, with luck on their side, things could have been different.
Despite fighting to the end, it was to be AEKs day and where the stage is now set for them to defend their trophy in May.
Goal – Lucca
MOM – Lucca.
Captain Fantastic. An all action display who led by example and scored the decisive goal to secure the win.
