Greek Cypriot party AKEL and Turkish Cypriot party United Cyprus have reviewed recent developments in the UN led negotiations and have expressed their readiness to support the process.
An AKEL delegation headed by Secretary General Andros Kyprianou had a meeting with a delegation of United Cyprus headed by its leader Izzet Izcan, on Tuesday, in occupied Nicosia.
“Negotiations are taking place, and our effort will be to support the efforts carried out by the leaders of the two communities in order to succeed in achieving an agreement on the agreed framework”, Kyprianou said in statements at the United Cyprus premises.
“This is the reason we are here, we would like to exchange information, views on the essence of the Cyprus problem and see how the two parties could be helpful to the whole process,” he pointed out.
At the same time he condemned “the attacks which took place against Turkish Cypriots last Saturday in Ayia Napa.” He promised to “exert all our influence to ensure that those who attacked Turkish Cypriots last Saturday will be brought to justice”.
On his part Izcan said his party`s main goal is to reach a reunified federal Cyprus and for the negotiating process to be concluded as soon as possible.
He called on the two leaders to take steps forward in the serious chapters of property, security, territory and matters such as the map and funding a solution. He also highlighted the importance of support on the part of the international community, noting however that the main given is that all those who wish for a solution remain together, united, as he said.
