Ruling DISY MP, Efthymios Diplaros, who, according to his own admission before a court, had made a “false, untrue, totally unsubstantiated and incorrect statement, since it was not based on actual facts” appears not to have drawn any lessons. In a TV program today he insisted that AKEL supposedly put pressure on the outgoing President in Crans Montana to accept the staying of the occupation army and perpetuation of intervention rights. Despite the fact that AKEL’s representative on the TV panel called on him to withdraw the lies, he didn’t do so.
Of course, it is a lie that ACEL pressed Nicos Anastasiades to accept the staying of the occupation army and intervention rights. Besides, AKEL is the only party that consistently continues to support the long-standing position of the Greek Cypriot side, as expressed in the unanimous statement of the National Council of September 2009 that the solution of the Cyprus problem must provide for the demilitarization of Cyprus.
AKEL does not and will never accept a solution providing for the staying of the occupation army and intervention rights. Evidently Mr. Diplaros hasnt abandoned the tactics of lies. But his action exposes him to citizens and society in general. The election campaign team of Mr. Anastasiades must understand that by employing the tactic of lies he cannot cover up the erroneous and mistaken handlings of Mr. Anastasiades which have led to Turkey being exonerated from any responsibilities.
