Our very own Andreas “The Ace” Evangelou was again in action on Saturday night in Essex against the vastly experienced James Tucker in a six round contest. This fight the next step up for Evangelou as he prepares to challenge for a domestic title later this year was against a boxer who had had 72 fights so brought a whole set of new challenges for the Ace to overcome.
Roared on from the first bell the Ace worked well behind his strong jab in the first round and found his opponent was clearly looking for the victory too using his experience to make things awkward. In the second round Evangelou again started well and started to throw some of his trademark combinations as he switched between his orthodox and south paw styles. In the third round his opponent started to really pursue Evangelou and in swinging a wild left hook taught Evangelou and the referee gave an eight count, Evangelou immediately responded and fought back well to end the round strongly. The fourth and fifth rounds both boxers dug in deep to land telling blows. In the sixth round the Ace strongly battled and encouraged by the wall of sound from his fans he off loaded accurate and hurtful shots to push his opponent back and the Ace finished the round strongly and confidently. After six hard fought rounds the referee scored the bout 57 points to 56 in favour of the Ace. This was the perfect end to a very successful season for the Ace but he will not be resting this summer, he has already arranged a months training camp in Los Angeles at the Gym of Hall of Fame Coach Jessie Reid with his brother Chris “The Flash” Evangelou.
