Apollon scored a valuable 3-0 victory over Omonia at the Tsirion on Monday night, taking advantage of APOEL’s draw against Doxa to close the gap on the leaders to two points. Earlier on Monday title holders APOEL dropped two points after being unable to break the resistance of lowly Doxa at the GSP.
Apollon went into the game determined to make the best of this. Their victory comes as a significant morale booster as they prepare for their next game. They take on APOEL, in Limassol on November 21 after a short break in the local championship because of international games.
Photis Papoulis was man of the match, scoring the first two goals in the 14th and 33rd minutes. Goalkeeper Bruno Vale was also in good form, saving a penalty in the 28th minute when the score was still 1-0. Loucas Stoyianvic headed in the Limassol side’s third goal and sealed victory. APOEL lead with 23 points, Apollon is second with 21 and AEK Larnaca third with 15. Omonia are ranked sixth with nine points.
