Charity changes its name after more than 40 years
Arachne Greek Cypriot Women’s Group has changed its name to Arachne Women’s Support in a bid to help and support more women living in London.
The charity provides free benefits, housing, employment and immigration advice, training and skills classes, and wellbeing activities for women living in London.
Based on Hercules Street in Holloway, they also host regular events celebrating the Greek Cypriot culture and the local Greek Cypriot community.
The charity has marked its name change by launching a new logo, website and promotional materials.
Catherine Deakin, the charity’s CEO, explains: “Our charity provides help and support to women through some of the hardest times of their lives. Last year we were proud to support 650 women and their families. But we know that far too many women don’t know who we are or what we do. Our new name focuses on getting our message – that we’re here to help and support all women – out there.
“We also hope to attract more people who want to volunteer for us, partner with us, fundraise for us and donate to us.”
Chair of Trustees, Christalla Savva, also comments: “Founded 40 years ago by a group of local Greek Cypriot women, we’re proud of our heritage and the difference we’ve made to women and families living in Islington and the surrounding areas.
“We’ll continue to celebrate our Greek Cypriot roots, but after careful research with our clients, staff and volunteers, we feel our new name now reflects the broad range of help and support that all women from all backgrounds can get from our charity.”
